I've had a few companies recently with poor performance on brand new Notebooks. It was taking about 30 minutes to produce a six minute USB.

After some investigation, the cause was found to be directly related to the CPU rather than the configuration of TandemVids.

Using these guides to check the CPU performance, it became obvious that choice of CPU is quite important when selecting a Notebook or Desktop to run TandemVids.

Our two year old Notebook produces a USB with extracted photos in about eight minutes. This was a fairly cheap $1,000 AUD Notebook so I assumed any good computer would readily handle TandemVids but this is not the case. We were lucky to get a decent CPU shown below with a solid benchmark.
Haswell 4th Generation Intel i7-4700MQ
Passmark: 7762
USB produced in around eight minutes.

Brand new Notebook with a poor performing CPU
AMD A8-7410
Passmark: 2585
USB produced in around 30 minutes.

A replacement Notebook for the poor performing one with a better CPU but the U prefix means Ultrabook so performance is lowered to increase battery life. Beware of Ultrabook CPU's for TandemVids.
Haswell 4th Generation Intel i5-4210U
Passmark: 3387
USB produced in around 20 minutes.

I would recommend a 6th generation Intel Core i7 Skylake processor. This is newer more expensive technology and you’ll need to shop around. Shops will be offloading older Notebooks and keeping these newer models out the back. Look for an Intel CPU starting with a 6. All Skylakes are 6000 series and preferably not a U suffix. U means Ultrabook so amazing battery life like 12+ hours but lower performance.

The other option is the older 4th generation models but pick a good CPU from the benchmark list above like the i7-4700MQ or i7-4800MQ. The 6th generation chips major advantage is better battery life. They aren’t a great deal faster.

It has a 6th Generation Core i7 6700HQ with a Passmark score of 8,034, about the same as our current computer but a battery life of 7 hours. It includes a 1TB hard drive for storing videos but no DVD drive so it can only be used for USB delivery.

SSD drives are another major consideration as they’re much, much faster but also a lot smaller, which is no good for us when storing tandem videos. Ideal situation would be an SSD for the operating system and working folder and then a larger standard had drive for archiving. The Inspiron range can be modified to accommodate this scenario.
