I recommend the LAV Filters available from here.
https://code.google.com/p/lavfilters/

It won't matter which video card you use. TandemVids uses the default Windows codec configured for your media. It doesn't change or modify any codecs. If it isn't being displayed, you have a codec issue.

Try loading any random video file of a different type into the source media box and then trimming it. If it works for some videos but not other types, you can narrow down which codec is failing. There is a section in the help file which explains using the gSpot utility to determine which codec is failing. Press F1 and search for "Codec".

What type of video files are you using?

In GSpot bottom left corner under MS A/V does the video actually play when you click button 2?

It's worth trying ffdshow  if the LAV Filters  aren't working for you.

The black screen in GSpot shows the codecs aren't working. If they don't work in GSport, they won't work in TandemVids either. It's a complicated issue and I don't really have a solution. I've spent hours and hours trying to fix broken codecs on customer machines without success. If the LAV Filters don't repair the broken codecs, there is something amiss. It probably stems from some other software that hasn't uninstalled correctly. A dodgy or unregistered codec is taking over and failing to render the footage. You have to work out which codec it is and disable or remove it.

I know TandemVids works fine with the LAV Filters on all supported newly installed operating systems. TandemVids does not modify or change any codecs.

I don't know what to suggest but, if it was my computer, I would probably wipe it and reinstall the operating system. You have to way up the hours wasted messing around with codecs versus the few hours it takes to rebuild a computer.

If you persist, there are plenty of forums and help sites dedicated to codec issues.

When I open a GoPro 3 MP4 file in GSpot, it lists the same information as you but mine plays when I click the second button under MS A/V

In GSpot, select System | List media types. Sort by Designation by clicking on the column header. Find AVC1. Right click and select List Filters Accepting This Format. Sort by Merit and post the screenshot of which filter has the highest merit.

Try uninstalling any codecs or codec packs you have listed, including LAV Filters and ffdshow. Uninstall Nero if you have it installed. Reboot, install just the LAV Filters and see how you go.

It sounds like you've been doing heaps of this and I can understand your frustration. The last person I was helping in this situation gave up and rebuilt their computer.

Ensure you have MP4 selected in the LAV Splitter configuration and H.264 selected in the LAV Video configuration. This should be on by default. Ffdshow has it disabled by default.

You have ffdshow configured as the default decoder. Ensure it's enabled in the ffdshow configuration screen.

I'm not sure what the "RDP DShow Redirection" entry is but it has an unusually high merit. I don't have that one on my system. It looks like its being forced to override everything with the odd maximum merit setting of "0xffffffff". I would try lowering the merit for that one. Start GSpot with administrative privileges. Right click and run as administrator. System | List Codecs and Other Filters. Sort by name and find "RDP DShow Redirection". Right click and select lower the merit to a value below your ffdshow merit, "0xff800000" or lower. If it doesn't fix anything, set it back to how it was.

You need to run GSpot as an administrator to change merit or disable codecs. Right click and select run as administrator.

This is my advice if you're struggling with codec issues.

I can finally move away from reliance on codecs because I no longer support Windows XP.
